Why do we spend so much time thinking of the past? You can’t change it. Time spent wondering how things might have been different if you’d only done this instead of that. It is so pointless yet we all do it. And what if you had done something different? Perhaps things would have been worse and not the ‘different’ you might have hoped for. Here, in my present, I am happy. That is what matters. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t lived the life I did. Yes there are things I wish I would have done differently, but that’s the same for everyone I believe. Why dwell on that now? Live in the present and look to the future. Oh so much easier said than done and something that needs constant practice! (Mindfulness is NOT me. . . but I’d like for it to be. Another post for another day) My thoughts and worries seem more focused on others and whether they are happy or not. Something I need to constantly remind myself I cannot control. We are all in charge of our own happiness and our own feelings… Each is responsible for his or her own actions and behaviors…
Now my words sat here waiting for me a while as I played with my beautiful, smiling though sneezing granddaughter. She has had a bottle and is now sleeping. Beautiful, happy, full of joy and curiosity is what she is. We were listening to Disney songs while we rocked. Yes, Disney songs. The Lion King Circle of Life came on. The lyrics of the chorus floating through my mind now:
It’s the Circle of Life And it moves us all Through despair and hope Through faith and love Till we find our place On the path unwinding In the Circle The Circle of Life
Well, doesn’t that just sum it up nicely. The circle of life. It moves us. MOVES us. And I don’t believe it means backwards. . . The despair and hope, faith and love shaping us. Forward through it all till we find our place on the path unwinding. . . Amazing, and it continues to unwind before us everyday. I think I am still just looking for my place on that unwinding path. Even at my age. And everyone’s path is different.
Why not be present and enjoy that unwinding path? Spending too much time looking behind you will cause you to miss the beauty of what is right in front of you!
